Is a trigger warning a way to avoid triggering trauma or is it a term we use to overlook traumatic but very real events? Ignorance indeed is bliss but how do we tell this to a young girl being called a “harami” by her own mother; to a sixteen-year-old whose lover has been sent to fight a war for things he does not believe in; to thousands of young children who would probably never see their birth-nation again?

“The Taliban moved into the house,” Rahim Khan said. “The pretext was that they had evicted a trespasser. Hassan’s and Farzana’s murders were dismissed as a case of self-defence. No one said a word about it. Most of it was fear of the Taliban, I think. But no one was going to risk anything for a pair of Hazara servants.” 1996, The Kite Runner. Cheshta TaterCo-founder, Rightantra While I sat eating at a rather expensive restaurant today, I spotted a child from the huge French window. He was doing pull-ups. On the scaffolding. No, he was not a child labourer. But in that moment, I couldn’t help but be selfish.
Cheshta TaterCo-Founder, Rightantra Maybe it is the area of study I am in or maybe it is my generation, that we talk about sex quite openly and plainly. Sex and sexuality are as old as mankind but I’m sure eyebrows will be raised for opening an article on a child rights platform with this subject. While most readers would choose to read further to see what I have to say, some people will only continue reading it in the hope of some “spicy” content. Some will read further so they can criticise. At the end of the day, sex sells.
Veehangi SinghGuest Author My mornings don’t start before 9 AM unless they absolutely need to. One of the many reasons why I prefer to sleep in later than most people is because of how long my days feel if I don’t. I have been on the road for 4 hours now, and it feels like half the day’s already passed us by.
‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel Van Der Kolk is my most recent read and an essential on a 10-hour-long ride into the hills. I read two paragraphs out of his chapter on ‘Developmental Trauma: The Hidden Epidemic’, before forcing myself to stop, in an urge to prevent the motion sickness of the bumpy ride from reaching my throat. As I look out the window, in a mere attempt to distract myself from nausea, my mind goes back to this one line in the book: ‘Most of the public only knows them as statistics’. They are hundreds and thousands in number, absorb enormous resources , often without much benefit. Who is Prof Van Der Kolk talking about? Who is someone who takes up an array of professionals to keep themselves fully functioning? Khadija HetavkarContent Writer (Legal), Rightantra Tanya GoelOutreach Manager, Rightantra Independence is one of the most fundamental human desires. Our teenage years are when we begin to receive that freedom in small amounts. We begin seeing the thrill life holds for us—college, living alone, travelling with friends, a successful career, parties, and everything else. While socializing and celebrating with new friends and people, you may be introduced to alcohol and other intoxicating substances like weed. Read the full article if you want to know how exactly you can get the best of both worlds and also what to do if things escalate.
Tvisha VarmaContributing Author, Rightantra Tanya GoelOutreach Manager, Rightantra We all know that Climate Change is the gradual change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. This daunting increase in the atmospheric temperature leads to a variety of drastic changes in nature. For example: forest fires, melting of the glaciers (which leads to flooding), declining water supplies (droughts) and season shift.
